Recycled Skateboard Bottle Stopper

I’m so excited about this project. The blank was made by ReBecca DeGroot, and she did a demonstration turning one of them at the Easy Wood Tools booth during the AAW Symposium. We ended up trading blanks at the end of the show, and I was eager to turn it up when I got back home. The blank is made out of recycled skateboard decks that have been glued up into a herringbone pattern. I love how the patterns emerge from it when you turn it round. Each side is a bit different with the colors and patterns.

We had an amazing time at the AAW Symposium. I felt very lucky to have gotten the chance to demo at the Easy Wood Tools booth with Carl Jacobson, Heath Knuckles, Rebecca DeGroot, Scott Grove, and Bradley McCallister. Huge thank you to the folks at Easy Wood Tools for inviting us all to come out to the event, it was awesome!

I decided to mix in some highlights from the symposium in this video, so I hope you enjoy watching the bottle stopper being turned as well as a little wrap up of the events at the symposium.

Check out Carl’s video turning the burl/resin hybrid blank with a paint chip cast in it. He made an awesome stand out of myrtle wood to hold it, and the blank looks like a pod or a chili pepper. Super creative project!
